TAIPEI (5)

15June2009
台灣故事館→台北後車站→Mr. J魔法廚房→士林夜市
Taiwan Storyland→Taipei Station (Back)→
Mr J. French-Italian Restaurant→Shilin Night Market

Left our luggage at Riverview Hotel and walked to Ximen station..
Plan was to check in to the new hostel later in the day..

Train to Taipei Main Station

Checking out how to book tickets to Hualien in the later part of the trip at
Taipei Railway Station.. it was really confusing and so we went to ask the lady at the counter.
she was like irritated, and told us to look at the schedule, "it's all inside" she said.
if i understood i wouldn't have asked u la, auntie.... in the end we went to the other counter and they were very helpful.

Me asking the counter staff:
'我問你啊..為什麼隔壁的人這樣不爽?'
Staff:
'嗯..可能很多人詢問吧...'

haha..

i love the posters :)

the banana people!

台灣故事館 (táiwān gùshìguǎn/Taiwan Storyland) is a nostalgic recreation of 1960s Taiwan located in the basement of KMall (an electronics and computers mall across from Taipei Main Station). You would think it would just be cheesy as hell but it is surprisingly well-done, featuring a great selection of vintage furniture, cars, bikes, posters, you name it. It's just like the old days, except it is immaculately clean and climate controlled—which is to say, it is nothing like being in the old days at all, but rather a sanitized, Disneyland version of being in the old days. Actually, to be fair, it's not like Main Street Disneyland since it is not at all cartoon-like or unrealistically colorful. It's in fact quite a faithful recreation, something akin to what you would find in a museum.

Painstakingly taken with camera timer with one of us going in front to press the shutter for every shot.. but it was all well worth it :)

We had trouble looking for our hostel that day, in the end we sought help from this auntie who was manning the Buddhist statues store, and she kindly help us called the owner. the reason why it was difficult to look for the place was simple - it was very hidden, in this little alley. the auntie alerted us that the hostel was actually located near a lot of 茶室, so it will be quite noisy cos people sing karaoke and stuff.

well, when i booked the place i did not get to see the surroundings, only the rooms.. we contemplated whether to change since we had not paid for anything, and taking into considerations we had to climb 5 floors (imagine, with our luggages) every day.... we thought about it and decided to stay for the night first, and see how..

I made a call to my mum and in the end we decided that it was too troublesome to change to another, so we stayed there..

frankly speaking, i loved the rooms, and the owner and staff were very friendly..

Hostel 民宿 for the next 3 nights

Shihlin Xiaojiji and Flying Cow Niu niu

Taipei York

Seriously, other than it being in a small alley and we had to climb stairs I had not much complaints.. but the curtains were always left open and we all remembered that we closed it before we leave the hostel everyday... strange.. maybe the owner came in?

They have new rooms in Xi Men Ding, looks good.. maybe the surroundings are much better, if you guys are planning a trip to Taipei you guys can check it out! but it's all in Traditional Chinese.. be prepared XD
